Young Women’s Film Academy

The Young Women’s Film Academy is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation registered in 2018 Charity Number 1179614

We provide film making activities and services for girls and young women and the local communities across the North East of England, with the following 3 charitable objectives:

  • Providing support and activities which develop their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as mature and responsible individuals;
  • Promoting good mental health;
  • Advancing education and training.

The Young Women’s Film Academy gives girls, young women and non binary female born young people the space to tell their unique and individual stories and the creative skills to communicate their ideas. We do this through our 3 programmes of activity; Community Engagement and Wellbeing, Talent and Skills Development and Schools Programmes. Within these programmes are a variety of clubs, workshops and activities to support a a variety of needs and interests. All of our provision is FREE to attend, so that all young people can access our services regardless of individual circumstances.

Our Herstory

Founded in 2018, the YWFA is a unique flagship organisation, as it is the only women and girls film academy in the United Kingdom. It works with female and non-binary female born beneficiaries, it is led by an all female board and staff, supported by female volunteers, filmmakers and other industry professionals. This makes the academy distinct, innovative and a platform that can change lives.
